Two suspects were involved in crashing a stolen vehicle into a tree and fleeing the scene by foot while toting large bags and bolt cutters shortly before 7 a.m. on March 8, according to the Mercer Island Police Department.

Multiple people immediately called 911 after witnessing the wreck near the 3400 block of 78th Avenue Southeast and supplied detailed descriptions to dispatchers of a male and female quickly snatching the items from the vehicle and bolting, the police report reads.

Officers conducted an initial search of the area and didn’t locate the suspects. The officers credit the alert witnesses and diligent NORCOM 911 dispatchers in “providing critical information laying a solid foundation for this investigation.”
