MIHS girls hoopsters take third at Desert Holiday Classic

Mercer Island High School’s girls basketball team finished third at the Desert Holiday Classic in Palm Springs, California, over winter break. Captains Lauren and Caitlin Monahan made the all-tournament team, and Lauren won the girls division 3-point contest, beating out nine other participants with 18 treys in one minute.

On the boys side at the tournament, the Islanders played in an ultra competitive division and went 0-4. “Our purpose was to challenge ourselves against great teams and we definitely did that,” said coach Gavin Cree, adding that Syver Lanctot made the all-tournament team for their division.
