Special to the Reporter

MIVAL (Mercer Island Visual Arts League) is celebrating its 49th Annual Junior Art Show for children in grades K-12. Formerly a beloved part of Summer Celebration, the show is now featured at the Mercer Island Gallery at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center from now through Aug. 18.

More than 50 children submitted artwork for cash prizes and for display in the gallery this summer. Winners include 2D and 3D pieces in a variety of mediums from pipe cleaners to oil paint. John L Scott Real Estate has generously sponsored this year’s exhibit with community supporters Clarke and Clarke Art + Artifacts, Island House, Sahara Pizza and Terra Bella also providing cash and gift prizes for the winners.

MIVAL is a 62-year-old community arts organization that supports children and adult artists through its shows, scholarship program, classes and community events. Children are welcome to make art with MIVAL volunteers at the Mostly Music in the Park event this summer.
