Oswald James Thibodeaux passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 30, 2025, three weeks shy of his 86th birthday. His wife, son and sister-in-law were present at his passing.
Ozzie was born to Alphe’ and Rosy Thibodeaux in Abbeville, Louisiana, and was raised in the small town of Delcambre nearby, in the heart of Cajun country. The family later welcomed his two sisters, Linda and Cheryl, into the family.
Ozzie graduated from Delcambre High School in 1958 and attended Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM) in Monroe, La., where he studied pharmacy and accounting but left before receiving a degree.
Ozzie was employed in the oil field industry with three major oil companies over his career (Skelly Oil, Getty Oil and Texaco) as a drilling foreman, a shore base operator and a workover foreman working in Texas, Georgia and Louisiana.
He enjoyed traveling and went on several solo European and cross-country trips before meeting his wife, Becky, in 1985, on a trip to Portugal, Spain and Morocco. In addition to travel, he enjoyed cooking his favorite Cajun dishes, speaking Cajun French on his world travels, anything automotive, visiting car shows around the country, and many sports, especially UW, LSU and Seahawks football, and the Seattle Mariners. He participated in the Solemates walking group and attended several Solemates gatherings in Leavenworth in the summer.
Ozzie and Becky were married for 38 years and have a son, Andre’. Ozzie was a very involved dad and was “Mr. Mom” once Becky returned to work after a year-long sabbatical.
Besides his wife and son, Ozzie is survived by his sister, five nieces and nephews, five great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins, all in south Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphe’ and Rosy Thibodeaux, and his sister, Linda Romero.
His funeral took place in Delcambre, La. on Friday, December 12. A celebration of life gathering in the Seattle area is planned for early 2026.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mercer Island Food Bank or the Washington State Parks Foundation.
