Northwest Yeshiva High School’s boys basketball team recently won a pair of SeaTac 1B League tournament playoff games against Redeemer Christian School and Northwest Christian.

In the Lions’ 76-35 victory over Redeemer on Feb. 3, junior Sam Weichbrodt amassed 23 points and senior Evan Kaufthal poured in 21 points. In the locals’ 80-58 triumph over Northwest on Feb. 5, Kaufthal led the way with 22 points, freshman Adin Goldsmith had 17, Weichbrodt had 13 and sophomore Eitan Yoav had a career-high 12 points.

The Lions (14-8) will next play Crosspoint Christian in the consolation bracket finals on Feb 11. The winner advances to the tri-district playoffs and the loser plays on Feb. 12 versus a team to be determined for the final tri-district spot.

In their final regular season game on Feb. 2, the Lions beat The Bush Academy, 61-60, with their first-ever win over a 1A team. Weichbrodt tallied 21 points in the non-conference matchup.

Per MaxPreps, point guard Kaufthal — a two-time captain — leads the state with 7.2 assists per game and is the only Washington player averaging 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists per game. He recorded his first career triple-double in a recent game.
