MIHS seniors named Rotary Islanders of the Month

Mercer Island High School seniors Joey Sommerfield and Zayar Thein have been selected as Rotary Islanders of the Month for March.

According to teachers who nominated the students:

Sommerfield “is a student of sterling character who is committed to helping those around him in diverse ways. He does this through his leadership within the band as a section leader, helping fifth-graders learn to play trumpet and French horn, and as marketing director for the green team.”

Thein “is a talented individual who thrives in being a leader and member of various organizations. He was a Link Crew Leader for the freshmen class this year, an officer in both Math Club and Science club, and elected senior patrol leader of his scout troop.”
