As April rolls around, we at Island Books start getting ready to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day, one of our favorite days of the year. This will be the 13th annual Independent Bookstore Day, a nationwide celebration of independent bookstores. Here in the Seattle area, we’re fortunate to have many wonderful independent bookstores, and we know that is due to our supportive community, choosing day after day and year after year to shop local. You’ve made it clear that you value having independent bookstores in your neighborhoods. None of us would be here without you and we are all so grateful.
So, mark your calendars for April 25 and get ready to show up at Island Books. We will be celebrating all day long, starting with Nancy Stewart’s Storytime. There will be treats and typewriter races — we even snagged a Libro.fm Golden Ticket. And it wouldn’t be an Independent Bookstore Day in Seattle without the Passport Challenge. On April 25, pick up your passport at any participating indie bookstore, get a stamp at all 33 bookstores by May 4, and turn in a filled passport to get a Champs card. If you make it to five or more stores, but don’t finish filling up the passport, you can still turn it in by May 4 for a single-use 25% coupon at your favorite bookstore. For a complete list of all the participating bookstores, head to www.seattlebookstoreday.com.
Want to get ready for Independent Bookstore Day in style? You can order yourself Seattle Indie Bookstore Day T-shirts through the Bonfire. If you read your books through your ears AND want to support Island Books, our partners at Libro.fm always offer great deals on audiobooks during Independent Bookstore Day. Based right here in Seattle, Libro.fm is the independent alternative for downloadable audio books. Visit their website at Libro.fm or ask any of our booksellers how to set up your account.
Wherever you roam, whether it’s your first Indie Bookstore Day, or your 13th, we hope you’ll come by Island Books and celebrate with us. I’m not saying anything new when I say every book we read changes us, in small and big ways. Reading opens us up to new ideas and new stories, allowing us to empathize with others, and expanding our imaginations. So come to the bookstore. Come with a friend. It’s the people that make Island Books the unique place it is, and your presence is the heart of our store.
Happy Independent Bookstore Day!
