Eight Mercer Island scouts reached Scouting America’s highest milestone on June 7 as Troop 624 honored new Eagle Scouts at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church.
Recognized were Eric Liu, Timothé Piteira, Khai McMullan, Neil Pandya, Yul Park, Bowen Nago, Amani Bergquist and Milo McJannet, the troop’s 123rd Eagle Scout since 1964.
The ceremony blended tradition with reflection, opening with the presentation of the colors before shifting to stories from the scouts themselves. Through slideshows and remarks, each shared memories of campouts, leadership roles and service projects that mark the Eagle rank.
Speakers emphasized that earning Eagle is a years-long journey requiring persistence and leadership. Nationally, only a small percentage of scouts ultimately achieve the rank, a reminder of the commitment behind each award.
That journey is often shaped by challenge — learning to lead peers, manage setbacks and solve problems in real time, whether on the trail or in the community. Those experiences, leaders noted, help build confidence and resilience that extend well beyond scouting.
The pinnacle of the ceremony came as the eight scouts recited the Eagle Scout Promise and received their awards alongside their families. The evening concluded with a reception honoring the new Eagles and their achievements.
