Special to the Reporter

The Mercer Island Visual Arts League (MIVAL) is proud to present the 52nd Annual Junior Art Show, now on display at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center (MICEC). This year’s exhibition celebrates the creativity, imagination and artistic achievement of more than 50 student artists from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The show features 87 artworks spanning a wide variety of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, digital art and mixed-media creations. The exhibition provides young artists with an opportunity to share their work with the community while gaining recognition for their creativity and dedication.

An awards reception was held on June 27, where outstanding student artists were recognized for excellence in their age groups and artistic categories. Special awards included the Joan and Leonard Lucia Art Inspiration Awards, the Ewan Lill Art Awards, the Rose Preston Award, the Jean Jack Memorial Award, the Whitaker Family Abstract Art Award and the June Lindsey Award for 3D Art. These awards celebrate creativity, artistic growth and the enduring support of families and community members who believe in encouraging young artists.

The Junior Art Show is made possible through the generous support of Mathnasium of Mercer Island, community sponsors, award donors, MIVAL members and dedicated volunteers. Their contributions help ensure that young artists have opportunities to exhibit their work and develop confidence in their creative abilities.

For more than six decades, MIVAL has supported and promoted the visual arts on Mercer Island through exhibitions, educational opportunities, community events and programs for artists of all ages. The Junior Art Show remains one of MIVAL’s most cherished traditions, inspiring the next generation of artists and strengthening community connections through the arts.

The exhibition is free and open to the public and will remain on display at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center through Aug. 21. Community members are encouraged to visit and experience the remarkable talent and creativity of Mercer Island’s young artists.
