Baker will discuss ‘The Ripple Effect of Inclusion’ at Aug. 18 Rotary meeting

Haley Baker will discuss “The Ripple Effect of Inclusion: Supporting Adults with Disabilities, Strengthening Families, and Enriching Communities” at the Rotary Club of Mercer Island’s meeting on Aug. 18 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St.
The main meeting begins at 12:30 p.m.; socializing is from noon to 12:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome and there is no fee to attend. A catered lunch is available for $25, or attendees can bring their own meal.
Baker is the director of development at Tavon Learning Center, a King County nonprofit dedicated to cultivating lifelong learning for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through experiences rooted in the community and the natural world.
When she joined Tavon Learning Center in 2021 as their gardener, she had little personal connection to the IDD community. Through years of working alongside Tavon’s members, families, staff and volunteers, she gained a new perspective on disability, belonging and the power of community. Today, she is honored to share Tavon’s mission with others and believes that creating communities where everyone belongs not only transforms the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families, but also enriches the lives of the volunteers, staff and community members who walk alongside them.
