Two Island fires

There were two structure fires on Mercer Island last week, according to the Fire Department.

At 8:34pm on June 15, Mercer Island Fire and Police were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 3600 block of 76th Place S.E.

The first firefighters arriving on-scene found smoke coming from the attic above the garage.  Crews made entry into the attic and stopped the fire from extending to the living space of the residence. There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighters from Bellevue and Eastside Fire and Rescue assisted Mercer Island Fire fighters to bring the fire quickly under control. The initial estimate of the fire damage was $75,000.

At 7:23pm on June 20, a citizen reported a residential structure fire at 2400 block of S.E. 65th Place. Mercer Island, Bellevue and Eastside fire units responded to the incident.

The first firefighters arriving on-scene found smoke and flames from the rear of the structure.  Crews noticed fire extending up the exterior of the residence below the deck. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines to the rear of the structure and stopped the fire from extending to the living space of the home.

The home was not occupied and there were no injuries to occupants or firefighters. The cause of the fire is also still under investigation. The initial estimate of the fire damage was $10,000.
