The Rotary Club of Mercer Island has announced Lauren Knebel and Jeffrey Lindquist as the Islanders of the month.

The Rotary Club of Mercer Island has announced Lauren Knebel and Jeffrey Lindquist as the Islanders of the month.

Knebel is the manager of the Mercer Island High School wrestling team. She runs cross country, plays lacrosse, and is a Kids Corps tutor. A member of the Mercer Island Covenant Church, she volunteers at Operation Nightwatch, a nonprofit organization that provides meals for homeless men and women in Seattle.

Knebel has participated in the Mercer Island Half Marathon and Lake Stevens Half Ironman. The daughter of Tim and Rachel Knebel, she intends to attend a four-year college in Washington to earn a degree in nursing.

A captain of the MIHS football team and varsity basketball, Lindquist has won multiple athletic awards. He ranked fourth in the ESPN/Nike Elite quarterback competition and was named among the top seven quarterbacks in the nation by Steve Clarkson in the 2010 Super Seven. He has won the KingCo first team honors, honorable mention and offensive MVP award, and MIHS offensive player of the year. He was also a Seattle Times state player of the week for two consecutive years, and the U.S. Army/Seahawks player of the week. Lindquist holds 18 all-time MIHS records. His record includes 106 touchdowns, 8,771 yards total offense, 6,061 yards passing and 2,716 yards running.

Lindquist is a confirmation leader at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church and has volunteered and participated in the Rotary Run, Relay for Life and Bridgetown Ministries, serving the homeless in Portland. He has also been a football camp counselor, VOICE volunteer and Hugh O’Brien Leadership Program participant and leader.

Both Knebel and Lindquist are National Honor Society members and Bridges leaders.
