Police take a polar plunge

Nine participants on the Mercer Island Police Department team jumped into Lake Sammamish to support Special Olympics.

At last weekend’s Polar Plunge fundraiser, nine participants on the Mercer Island Police Department’s team turned out in their beach gear for a very cold dip in the winter waters of Lake Sammamish at Idylwood Park.

The event total for the day (from all teams) is expected to be almost $15,000, which will support Special Olympics athletes in Washington.

Special Olympics Polar Plunge Series is a fundraising effort organized by law enforcement agencies across the state.
