Someone entered a house to the west of Pioneer Park in the 6600 block of 82nd Avenue S.E. through an unsecured back door, or the front door using a key, and stole multiple items on Friday afternoon, April 8. A jewelry box, men’s watches, handbag, Toshiba Netbook, debit and credit cards and Costco membership card were stolen along with a bottle of tequila and $220 in cash between 3 and 5:30 p.m. The items might be traceable.
The Mercer Island Police Department reported 1,103 calls for service in March, with 10 traffic accidents, two DUI accidents, four DUI arrests, two hit-and-runs, 267 traffic infractions, 32 criminal traffic citations, 26 parking citations, 46 thefts, two burglaries, four cases of simple assault, and 339 total citations. Police made 34 arrests.
April 4
Theft: A mountain bike was stolen out of a garage in the 9700 block of S.E. 43rd Street sometime between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., while the resident was doing errands. The bike was a brand new Redline D600. There is no suspect in the case.
April 7
Trespass: A Bellevue man attempted to enter a woman’s residence in the 3600 block of Island Crest Way by turning the front door knob at 5 p.m. He had come into the woman’s home twice, without invitation, in January.
DUI: Police arrested a Mercer Island woman, 26, for drinking and driving at 2:17 a.m. in the 8600 block of S.E. 40th Street.
April 8
Malicious mischief: A Mercer Island woman reported at 4:05 p.m. that a gym curtain in the Community Center at Mercer View had been defaced.
Arrest: Police arrested a Bellevue man, 30, at 5:59 p.m. in the 7800 block of eastbound I-90 after stopping his vehicle for expired tabs. The suspect was driving with a suspended license and a $1,500 warrant. He was taken into the custody of Bellevue police.
Fraud: An 84-year-old resident of Covenant Shores became a victim of a scam when she received a phone call in the morning from someone who claimed to be her grandson. The woman was persuaded to wire $4,386 by Western Union to San Jose Delcobo, Mexico.
Assault: Police arrested a 15-year-old boy at 9:55 p.m. for assaulting his mother. The boy was also in possession of marijuana.
April 10
DUI: Police arrested a 62-year-old man at 12:09 a.m. in the 5000 block of westbound I-90 after stopping him for driving without taillights at night. The driver, from San Diego, Calif., had been drinking, smelled of intoxicants and failed standard field sobriety tests. His vehicle was towed and he was booked into the Issaquah Jail.
