Mercer Island polo places 8th in San Diego open

Mercer Island polo competed in a 40 team field to take eighth in the 2017 San Diego Open last weekend.

According to Coach Calvin White, the team performed well, “… Fueled by carne asada burritos and sunshine.”

The Islanders notched a victory over Del Norte 7-5, lost a close one to Westview 8-7 and tested their mettle against tournament champion Vahalla and finalist Grossmont in early rounds. Mercer Island was the only team from outside California in the top bracket.

“We played well in San Diego and need to carry over lessons learned down there into the remainder of our season,” White said.
