Many schools and organizations in the Mercer Island School District — Lakeridge Elementary School, Northwood Elementary School, Island Park Elementary PTA, Islander Middle School PTSA and Mercer Island High School — have completed large food drives this fall.

Thanksgiving Eve was the busiest day of the year for receiving donations for the food pantry, according to the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services Foundation.

In addition to school food drives, the Mercer Island Firefighters Local 1762 did a food and cash collection in front of QFC in November, and is doing a coat drive throughout the month of December.
