Mercer Island City Council OKs ped and bike facilities plan

A properly edited and well-vetted Pedestrian and Bicycle Facility (PBF) plan returned to the Mercer Island City Council for final approval on June 21. The document was originally slated for approval at a May 17 meeting; however, the draft was tabled because several sections had not been correctly revised to reflect council member’s previous input. The draft also contained errors, according to city documents.

The City Council unanimously approved the PBF at its second ‘final’ appearance before City Council Monday, June 21 with one final addition to reinstate crosswalks 17 and 18 in the plan. Written record of the crosswalks had been inadvertently left out during the editing process.

City Manager Rich Conrad called the omission “a scrivener’s error.”

The plan details current conditions of pedestrian and bicycle facilities on the Island, the city’s goals for improvement, a facilities plan, design guidelines, list of priorities and a process for future outreach to Island pedestrian, cycling and automobile-driving communities.
