Jean Frances

Palmberg (AKA

Jean Shera) passed

away on Sunday,

August 30, 2020

after managing

13 years of long

term cancer.

Jean was born in

Lyndhurst, Virginia

on February 26, 1936

of Martha Evelyn Beard and

Malcolm Ethelbert Stout.

Husband, Jon Alan Palmberg,

predeceased her. Stout

brothers, Marshall, William,

Stuart, Elbert, Ray and sisters,

Ellen Stout and Ann Wicknick

also predeceased her. She

is survived by a number of

nieces and nephews.

Jean received a BA in history

from Vanderbilt in 1958 and

her MA from the University

of Washington in 1967.

Professionally she taught

history, English and math

in San Diego, Shoreline, and

at Immaculate Conception

in Seattle. Later she taught

private guitar lessons.

She served on the Seattle

League of Women Voters

board as editor of its

newsletter. Then

continued on the

board working

to help achieve

passage and

ratification of

the equal rights

amendment to the

Washington State

Constitution and to

gain Washington States

approval of the equal rights

amendment to the United

States Constitution.

February 15, 1975 marked

the blessed marriage of Jon

Alan Palmberg to Jean. She

became stepmother to Leah

Elaine and Daniel James

Palmberg.

Putting her faith into action

she provided Christian

education to children and

trained adults as a Stephen

Minister.

Covenant Living became her

home since 2013 where she

contributed her poetry to their

quarterly publication.

In lieu of flowers

contributions may go to the

Fred Hutchinson Cancer

Institute or the Southern

Poverty Law Center.
