Mercer Island’s Natural Resources team will host a restoration event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 1 at Luther Burbank Park.
The planting and weeding event will take place along the park’s south shoreline trail. Volunteers are looking to get a small number of native plants in the ground and they’ll also be removing non-native blackberry and ivy that are growing along the trails and around native plantings, according to the event notice.
Among the volunteers will be members of the Washington Fly Fishing Club, Boy Scouts and University of Washington students. Participants aged 14 and under are required to volunteer with a parent or guardian at a ratio of one adult to three kids.
Participants should meet by the Boiler Building, dress in long pants with boots or sneakers and bring a water bottle. Small snacks, gloves and tools will be provided.
