Eastside Fire & Rescue (EF&R) crews, with assistance from the Bellevue Fire Department, extinguished a Mercer Island residential house fire on the evening of Nov. 10 in the 9400 block of Southeast 54th Street. The structure was unoccupied.
According to EF&R’s X page that night, firefighters arrived to heavy fire in the abode.
EF&R’s Public Information Officer Catherine Imboden later added that 911 received multiple calls in the 5:58 p.m. range reporting a burning home with flames and smoke visible.
Police were on the scene first and then EF&R Engine 192 arrived at 6:05 p.m. and reported a fully engulfed structure. Ten more fire units were eventually called to the scene and the fire was extinguished at 6:39 p.m.
“No occupants were in or around the property,” said Imboden, adding that, “(Crews) were able to quickly extinguish the fire and stop it from spreading to any neighboring properties.”
A city of Mercer Island social media post noted that both directions of East Mercer Way approaching the 5400 block were closed during the fire response.
The cause of the fire was under investigation at press time, Imboden said.
