Five shots were fired into a house in the 6100 block of S.E. 30th Street, leaving three bullet holes in the siding and two holes in the windows of the living room wall. The incident occurred between 10:50 p.m. and 11:04 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, two blocks from West Mercer Way. Bullet fragments were found near the baseboard and behind a couch in the living room, and .22 long rifle casings were found in the grass west of the driveway.
Feb. 15
Mail theft: Stolen mail was recovered in the 4200 block of East Mercer Way by a Mercer Island woman, 48, when she was walking her dog in the morning. The mail was addressed to four residents of West Mercer Way.
Feb. 16
Arrest: Police stopped a speeding vehicle at 5:03 p.m. in the 7900 block of East Mercer Way. The vehicle had been speeding in the 7200 block. Police arrested the driver, a Bellevue man, 20, after identifying him as the respondent in a post-conviction assault no-contact order from Bellingham. His passenger, a Bellevue woman, 20, was the protected subject against whom the order was violated. The driver was booked into the Issaquah Jail.
Feb. 17
Theft: Fourteen bottles of wine were found hidden in a vehicle with multiple other items after police stopped the car for a report of sale violation at 6:39 p.m. in the 8100 block of eastbound I-90. The driver did not have ID or a valid operator’s license and the passenger, who had an outstanding warrant, was not wearing a seatbelt. Police arrested the passenger and searched the vehicle with the occupants’ consent.
The wine was stolen from Albertsons and QFC, and among the other stolen items were stereo dash pieces and copper brass fixtures inside a backpack, a satellite radio receiver, shoes, socks, a handbag, garden shears, lotion, pipes, spoons, six knives, a gym bag, glass jar, and a driver’s license of another person.
Theft: $2,500 worth of champagne was stolen from the north-end QFC at 11:31 p.m. The suspect, a 22-year-old Seattle woman, was recorded on surveillance video.
Feb. 18
DUI accident: Police arrested a Mercer Island man, 50, at 1:43 a.m. in the 7600 block of Sunset Highway.
The driver was cited with one count of driving the wrong way on the freeway and crossing a barrier, and one count of hit-and-run. A “Dead End” sign was wrecked in the collision, which involved one other vehicle with a tail light that was damaged.
Arrest: Police arrested a Seattle man, 65, for driving with a suspended license at 5:14 p.m. in the 2700 block of 76th Avenue S.E.
Arrest: Police took custody of a Seattle man, 27, with a $2,500 MIPD misdemeanor warrant at 9:15 p.m. at the Southcenter Mall and booked him into the Issaquah Jail.
Feb. 19
Arrest: Police responded to a noise complaint at 2:35 a.m. in a parking garage in the 3000 block of 80th Avenue S.E. Five subjects were contacted at the scene, one of whom had a Bothell misdemeanor warrant.
The suspect, a 26-year-old man, was arrested and taken into Bothell police custody.
Malicious mischief: A Mercer Island woman, 41, reported that the locking mechanism of her mailbox was broken between Feb. 14 and Feb. 16 in the 4000 block of West Mercer Way. She did not know if any items were stolen from the mailbox.
Car prowl: Multiple items were stolen from a Chevrolet K2 overnight in the 9900 block of S.E. 40th Street. Suspects stole a Bosch sabre saw, Snap-On plastic tool kits, a Canon digital camera and wallet containing $70 in cash, a driver’s license, Social Security card, credit and debit cards, Canadian money and club cards. The suspects tried to use one of the stolen credit cards later on.
Fraud: A Mercer Island man, 56, reported that $4,000 was fraudulently charged to his debit card at the end of January, sometime after Jan. 24.
Vehicle damages lawn: A Volkswagen Passat was towed from the lawn of a residence in the 7400 block of West Mercer Way at 10:15 p.m. The driver, 18, had driven down a private road to turn around. She drove across a freshly seeded and sanded lawn in a circular area that she mistakenly thought was part of the driveway. The vehicle sank into the yard and had to be towed out.
Feb. 20
Accident: A Lexus struck a tree at around 30 mph at 2:44 a.m. in the 8400 block of S.E. 68th Street after the driver, a 33-year-old Mercer Island man, swerved to avoid hitting a cat or raccoon that crossed the road. The driver reported chest pain and was assisted with aid.
Lost canoe: A Mercer Island man, 63, reported a missing canoe last seen on Feb. 17 sitting on his dock. He did not know if his canoe was stolen or if bad weather blew it away.
