In a message to the Mercer Island community on the afternoon of March 26, the Mercer Island School District (MISD) noted that Islanders may have noticed police activity at Crest Learning Center that day.

According to the Mercer Island Police Department, the incident involved two students associated with Crest and that officers conducted the investigation on-site where the involved individuals were present.

“This was determined to be the safest and most appropriate course of action,” police said of the investigation, which resulted in one adult and one juvenile being taken into custody. The alleged victim of the incident is not associated with the MISD, police noted.

“We want to reassure our community that students were never in danger or in an unsafe situation and there was no threat to the schools,” reads the district’s message. Police added that no staff members were in danger at the schools.

Due to student privacy laws, the district message said it was unable to share additional details.

“We remain committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students,” the district said.

The case remains under active investigation and the Reporter will add information to this story when it becomes available.
