Islander soccer sweeps week

The Mercer Island girls soccer team swept its opponents last week, beating Interlake and Juanita in back-to-back shutouts.

The Islanders wrapped up Interlake, 7-0, last Tuesday evening.

The evening started with an Ellen Haas goal, assisted by Lauren Frank, a minute into play. It became one of Haas’ four goals of the night. She followed up with her second in the 24th minute, assisted by Leah Johnson. At the beginning of the second half, Haas earned an assist after Celina Solomon scored in the 46th minute. In the 58th minute, Haas earned her hat trick for the night following a Mary Hill assist, before scoring again in the 61st minute, assisted by Alexi Odegard. Frank earned a fourth goal of the season after an unassisted goal before Dulce Moll found the back of the net, with help from Laura Harrison, in the 78th minute of the game.

Freshman goalie Corey Goelz notched her fifth shutout this season after the Islanders beat Juanita on Thursday night.

The game’s lone goal in the Islanders 1-0 win came after a Mary Hill corner kick that Erin Bourguingnon put in the back of the goal.

This week, the Islanders will host Sammamish on Thursday, starting at 7:30 p.m.
