December 3
Domestic: A 51-year-old male at the 5800 block of 84th Avenue S.E. said that he was assaulted by his spouse after an argument.
December 13
Theft: A 66-year-old female reported that she had a Fedex box stolen off her front step at the 9200 block of S.E. 46th Street.
December 14
Collision: An Island man said he saw a vehicle being driven by a female back out of a stall next to him at the Ridgewood Condos on 81st Place S.E. He heard a noise that sounded like a scrape, and later checked and saw a scratch on his passenger side rear bumper that matched damage on her front bumper. The female said she did not know she scraped the other car.
December 16
Theft: A 57-year-old Island woman at the 7400 block of 80th Place S.E. reported the theft of a small package containing jewelry that had been delivered by FedEx for a loss of $350.
Theft: A 41-year-old female at the 3200 block of 90th Place S.E. said that her game consoles were stolen from her home, along with games and a laptop computer for a loss of $4,270. The suspect is a 28-year-old Island male.
Fraud: Police received a call from a New Jersey police agency concerning a check for $905 that was mailed to the address of an Island family at the 2200 block of 74th Avenue S.E. They were contacted about winning the lottery for over $3 million, and were told that they could have the winnings if they paid an administrative fee. They have completed two transactions. There is another victim in New Jersey, who has been a victim in the past of lottery-type fraud schemes.
December 17
Fraud: A 35-year-old Island man at the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street reported that an unknown person obtained his personal information and opened a Verizon account in his name. He contacted Verizon in September 2013 when he received a bill for the service and thought it was handled. Recently, during a credit check, he found that the Verizon account was active and had been sent to collections, so he contacted Verizon again and was told to report the fraud to police.
Theft: A 39-year-old male reported the theft of 12 art books and two gray plastic totes from a common storage area in the basement of an apartment building at the 2700 block of 78th Avenue S.E. The totes were behind a locked door that most likely every resident has a key to. The approximate loss is $600.
December 18
Collision: A driver exited a private lot at the 7200 block of North Mercer Way and began driving westbound. A cyclist said that the driver was on his cell phone, so he called out to him and collided with the rear of his car after the driver braked and the biker couldn’t stop in time. The car continued on North Mercer Way. There was no damage to the bike, though the cyclist had a small cut on the bridge of his nose. Police interviewed people at the Roanoke Inn who said they heard a man yelling, but didn’t see anything.
Collision: Two cars collided at the intersection of S.E. 29th Street and 78th Avenue S.E. as one was turning. The driver who struck the other car as it made a left turn was cited for inattention.
Prowling: A 22-year-old Island woman reported that her car was broken into at Luther Burbank Park. A black purse with personal items, including a debit card, Social Security card and driver’s license, was taken.
Theft: The car of a 44-year-old Kirkland man was prowled at the 3700 block of East Mercer Way. The passenger window was smashed and about $1262 worth of items were taken, including a Dell tablet, car manual, tire gauge and iPhone charger. Police are looking into the possibility of surveillance footage.
December 19
Fraud: A 50-year-old Island woman at the 4000 block of 91st Avenue S.E. said that she was called by Chase Bank and asked to verify that another person was authorized to be on her credit card account. She was told that someone posing as her called and requested that another user be added to her Chase Slate Visa. Her name, Social Security number, birthdate and mother’s maiden name were used to verify the account, but as standard practice, Chase does a follow-up to confirm. The account was closed.
Theft: A family at the 5000 block of East Mercer Way reported that their mailbox was smashed, and two checks for $2,522.34 and $400.17 were stolen, along with a $50 Best Buy gift card. The mailbox was replaced for a cost of $400. Police contacted Best Buy and found that the stolen gift card had been used, and they were able to obtain surveillance video of the purchase.
Forgery: A 46-year-old woman at the 6700 block of 80th Avenue S.E. reported that someone used her account number for a Bank of America line of credit to write a fraudulent check for $24,800. The suspect cashed the check at a bank in New Jersey. The bank put a hold on the funds because there was another check from a different bank with the same name and signature.
Theft: A 55-year-old Island man at the 4300 block of 87th Avenue S.E. reported that packages containing a recipe and ingredients for a Christmas present, a magnifying glass with a light, DVD college courses on climate change and black hole theory and a dog carrier were stolen from his front porch after delivery by USPS and UPS.
Liquor violation: An 18-year-old male was found passed out in the passenger seat of a vehicle at the 2700 block of 76th Avenue S.E. Police said he had a strong odor of intoxicants and was difficult to rouse. The fire department was called to the scene to ensure he was not in a medical crisis. He was released to a sober adult friend to take him home.
Burglary: A family at the 2400 block of 70th Avenue S.E. reported that someone forced entry through their back door. They noticed the damage immediately and called the police, who cleared the house and said it did not appear any entry was successful. The door frame and door had significant damage. The victims walked through the house and did not report anything missing or disturbed.
December 20
Informational report: Police responded to a welfare check for a 65-year-old Island woman at the 9500 block of S.E. 69th Street. The doors were secured, and she did not pick up her home or cell phone. Police talked to neighbors and friends who said they hadn’t seen the subject for a week, so they called her son who lives in Los Angeles, Calif. He gave permission for the fire department to force entry at the rear door to check on her. She was upstairs in her bed, said she was fine and declined medical aid.
Burglary: A 47-year-old Island man at the 2400 block of 74th Avenue S.E. said that he left his residence and locked the doors but did not set the alarm. He returned later to find a pane of glass smashed in the front door and the door unlocked. He believes someone entered the residence and left by the patio door, which was also found unlocked. The damage to the door was $700, and $1,500 in cash was missing from the closet.
Liquor violation: Police responded to a large underage drinking party with more than 20 people. Eight were cited for minor in possession (MIP) and the 19-year-old female hosting the party at the 7400 block of West Mercer Way was also cited on investigation for providing a premise.
Assault: A 25-year-old female was arrested on suspicion of striking her boyfriend during a physical and verbal argument at the 7800 block of S.E. 28th Street. She was booked into SCORE Jail. The 31-year-old male victim had significant injuries to his face.
Assault: A 37-year-old man suspected that an 18-year-old male and 19-year-old male were drinking and smoking pot. He shined his flashlight at the victims and blocked the roadway as they were trying to leave at the 3200 block of Shorewood Drive. One man exited his vehicle and a verbal dispute started. The suspect then pulled out pepper spray and sprayed the victim, then approached the other victim, who was still in his car, and starting spraying him. The second victim sped off to get away from the suspect, but crashed into a parked vehicle due to lack of vision. The man was arrested, and the drivers were treated by the fire department for injuries caused by mace.

Theft: A 38-year-old Island man reported that an unknown person cut the lock on his bicycle – a “Gary Fisher” model with green trim and white letting – and stole it from the public level of a parking garage at the 2700 block of 78th Avenue S.E.
