Police Blotter | Island woman issued citation after putting mothballs on her property line

July 29
Collision: An Issaquah man was stopped in his vehicle waiting to turn left at the 3900 block of Island Crest Way. An Everett man stopped quickly behind him and was struck in the rear by a Mercer Island man. All three vehicles sustained damage. The Island man said he realized he was missing his wallet, and was looking for it when he struck the vehicle in front of him. He was charged with driver inattention.
July 31
Collision: Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run and contacted the victim, a contractor and Stanwood man, in the parking lot at 2755 77th Avenue S.E. He was driving a work truck with yellow lights flashing and stopped after turning on to S.E. 29th Street from 77th Avenue S.E. Another vehicle approached him from behind and passed on the right, striking the front corner of the truck’s bumper before leaving the scene. The suspect, a Mercer Island man, denied knowing he was part of a traffic accident, but police didn’t believe him due to the extensive damage to his vehicle. He admitted he knew he “bumped” the truck, and was charged with improper passing.
Collision: A car driven by a Mount Vernon woman in the 2200 block of West Mercer Way crossed slightly over the center line. The driver’s side mirror collided with another car’s mirror, which was traveling the opposite way and driven by a Mercer Island man. Police said the woman’s behavior was abnormal, but she didn’t have an odor of toxicants. MIFD responded but was unable to find any medical issues. A friend of the woman said she had been awake for a long time and her medication had worn off. There were no tows or injuries.
Collision: A Mercer Island man was charged with driver inattention after colliding with an unoccupied vehicle at the 6200 block of 84th Avenue S.E. He stated that it was dark and he didn’t have his high beams on. He passed around the traffic circle at S.E. 62nd Street and looked down to change the radio station when he hit the car parked on the west side of the road.
August 1
Theft: A 30-year-old Island woman’s bicycle was stolen from the secured portion of the Mercer West Apartments parking garage. Her lock, bike lights and water bottle cage were also reported as stolen property.
Assault: A 60-year-old Island man was arrested for assault and taken into custody at the 4400 block of Forest Avenue S.E. after punching, choking and shoving a 34-year-old Burien man’s head into the water.
Disturbance: A 47-year-old Island woman placed 200 mothballs on her property line at the 3400 block of 77th Place S.E., causing a strong odor and irritation to neighbors. She was issued a nuisance violation citation.
Theft: A 30-year-old Island woman had two bikes stolen from the secured garage in her apartment complex at the 2500 block of 76th Avenue S.E. The lock that secured the bikes was cut, for a loss of $1,850.
Marine: A 27-year-old Seattle man was arrested on suspicion of boating under the influence. The captain had been contacted by the U.S. Coast Guard and handed over to MIPD for a BUI investigation, where he failed field sobriety tests.
VUSCA: Two 17-year-olds, a female from Newcastle and a male from Mercer Island, were contacted at the Shorewood Apartments picnic area and found to be in possession of marijuana.
August 2
Theft: A 69-year-old Island man said he had $140 in cash stolen from his wallet while using the gym at the Country Club at the 8700 block of S.E. 71st Street. No suspects were identified, and it was unknown at the time of the report if the facility had a surveillance video system.
Theft: A 67-year-old Island man and 80-year-old Island woman at the 9600 block of S.E. 72nd Street reported that various pieces of their mail were stolen.
August 3
Collision: An Island man broke his clavicle and ribs after a bike crash at the 4700 block of East Mercer Way. His left pedal struck the ground as he was turning, causing him to lose control of the bicycle and fall into the roadway.
Malicious mischief: Suspects damaged a soda machine at the 8400 block of S.E. 68th Street while attempting to pry it open.
Warrant arrest: A 31-year-old Sumner man was arrested on an MIPD misdemeanor warrant.
August 4
Mental: A 54-year-old Island woman who lives at the 8500 block of S.E. 45th Street made suicidal statements to a friend via text and to MIPD upon arrival. She said she ingested at least 20 Xanax-type pills. She was taken to Overlake Hospital for medical treatment and evaluation.
Collision: A Federal Way woman was turning on to Island Crest Way from S.E. 44th Street when she struck the concrete curb lane divider. She overcorrected and went off the roadway, crossing the sidewalk and driving up onto some rocks and brush, nearly rolling the vehicle over. The vehicle was not driveable due to damage, but the woman was uninjured in the collision. She was charged with driver inattention.
August 5
Death investigation: An 87-year-old Island woman living at the 8300 block of Avalon Drive passed away in her sleep. No suspicious circumstances were observed.
August 6
Found property: A 40-year-old Renton woman found tupperware containing two pipes, tissues and an empty marijuana bag in the restroom of a store at the 7800 block of S.E. 27th Street.
Warrant arrest: A 22-year-old Des Moines man and King County Jail inmate was released to MIPD on an active misdemeanor warrant. He was transferred to Issaquah Jail.
Theft: A 47-year-old Island man reported that his bike was stolen from a secure garage at the 7800 block of S.E. 28th Street between June 12 and July 4. His bike was locked to a rack. The estimated loss is $2,050.
Theft: A 58-year-old Bellevue man reported that his son’s iPhone was taken from a park.
DUI: An 82-year-old Kirkland woman was driving on West Mercer Way with two flat tires. Witnesses got the vehicle to stop, and called the police. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, processed and released to her daughters.
August 7
Burglary: A 25-year-old Bothell man was arrested at the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street after residents called in a tip about suspicious activity. He was booked into King County Jail.
August 8
Prowling: A 34-year-old Island man reported that a car battery was stolen from his vehicle at the 8200 block of S.E. 24th Street.
August 9
Prowling: A 55-year-old Island man at the 4100 block of 94th Avenue S.E. said the rear window of his vehicle was shattered and his roadside hazard safety bag was taken.
Malicious mischief: A 63-year-old Island man at the 7100 block of 86th Avenue S.E. reported that someone broke the rear window of his vehicle, but nothing was taken.
Prowling: Two SUVs, parked next to each other at the Shorewood Apartments, had the rear windows smashed. There was no apparent entry.
