Local Voices: Conversations on Civil Liberties and Homeland Security is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Islander Middle School. Speakers will be Chris Vance, chairman of the Washington State Republican Party, Paul Lawrence, American Civil Liberties Union National Board member and Vicky Dobrin, attorney, Dobrin & Han. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Seattle.

Children’s Choir concerts are at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 4 and at 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at the Mercer Island High School theater. Tickets are $10 available at the door. The show is “That’s Entertainment.”

Maasai storyteller Joseph Lemasolai Lekuton, author of “Facing the Lion: Growing up Maasai on the African Savanna” will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, June 6, at the Mercer Island High School auditorium. There is no charge. Donations for “Cows for Kids” is appreciated.

Book signing by Mercer Island High School freshman lacrosse player and author Sara Stern, will sign her first book “Dragons, Song” at 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Island Books.

Mercer Island High School band car wash is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Storage Court, 8501 S.E. 68th, QFC, 7823 S.E. 28th and Island Park Elementary school, 5437 Island Crest Way. Tickets are $10 to help defray costs of sending band members to perform in the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Mercer Island Baccalaureate, an interfaith community celebration to honor all high school seniors, is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. S.E. A reception will follow. Speakers will be Matt Hasselbeck of the Seattle Seahawks and Dr. Paul Highsmith, former Mercer Island High School principal. Open to family and friends of graduates.

Talk Time English Conversation Class is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. For adults of all languages. Improve your English conversation skills and meet new friends.
