The Ironmensch Bike and Walk, Herzl-Ner Tamid’s summer triathlon, is from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at Herzl-Ner Tamid. A non-competitive play on Ironman triathlons. Rabbi D’var will speak on “The Bicycle as a Jewish Symbol.” Breakfast will be served after the event. The cost is $10. Call 232-8555 for information.

The ProBus Club of Mercer Island will meet at 10:30 a.m. today at the Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. S.E. The speaker is former State Senator Jim Horn, past chair of the Senate transportation committee. His topic is “What’s Going on in Transportation?” The public is welcome.

Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds summer reading program has begun. Bring your child to the library to sign up. There will be free programs, prizes and drawings as children read through the summer.

One-on-One Computer Training is available by appointment. The Interact Club, a group of Mercer Island students sponsored by Rotary, provides the training.

Volunteers Are Needed: youngsters 14 years old and older and adults, from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, for the “Royal Faire Celebration.” It recognizes those who completed the summer reading program. AM/PM Pals for children in full-day kindergarten through fifth grade. From 6:30 to 9 a.m. and from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Staff members accompany your child to and from the school buses to the three public elementary schools, prepare nutritious snacks, plan arts and crafts activities, assist with homework, play large-group games in the gym or outside, and supervise free play with legos, board games, computer time and more. Galleries

Chamber Art Gallery photography show. Featured photographers: Derek Juhl, a graduate of Mercer Island High School and the University of Washington; and husband and wife team Ron Reeder, who has reinvented an old technology in printing his photos, and Judith Roan, who prefers black and white classic images. The show will run through September. The gallery is at the Chamber of Commerce, 7613 S.E. 27th St.

Maggie LeMoie, Jean Jack and Jim Jaime will be exhibiting their artwork at the Washington Mutual Building through October.

The East Seattle School Class of 1946 is celebrating its 60th reunion this summer, despite that it has been only 59 years since the members finished eighth grade on the Island.
