Health screening by Life Line will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, May 17 at CCMV. Pre-registration is required. Residents can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke. Ultrasound technology can scan for blocked arteries, aortic aneurysms, and hardening of the arteries in the legs. A bone density screening test will also be offered. Youth Theatre Northwest warehouse benefit is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 19. Two well-known names in the women’s fashion industry, Jarbo and J2, will host the benefit featuring more than 40,000 clothing items for sale. Community Yogathon Benefit will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at the Community Center at Mercer View. It will include a variety of class styles taught by local instructors. Fees will be donated to Mercer Island Youth and Family Services. All levels of experience are welcome, but classes will be taught with the beginner in mind. Child Safety Fair & Baby Extravaganza is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at Factoria Mall. Presented by Overlake Hospital, Factoria Mall and the Bellevue Police and Fire Departments to educate families about a variety of safety-related topics. Families can take advantage of free car safety seat inspections, bicycle helmet fittings, child fingerprinting and photo IDs, and many more activities. Children can visit with McGruff the Crime Dog, Siggy, Ped-Bee Sparky and other favorite characters, as well as Officer Baker and his miniature horse. Free compost: The Mercer Island Saddle Club has a new batch of composted horse manure available for gardeners. Compost is free, and may be picked up during daylight hours, seven days a week. About 50 cubic feet is available, and the club plans to provide a constant supply for the public. The compost is located at the Saddle Club in wooden pallet bins. Enter the club grounds through the gate just south of the intersection of 68th Street and Island Crest Way. The compost bins are located immediately to the left of the gate.
