Scholastic Book Fair is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 27, in the Island Park Elementary Library. Books for all ages. Proceeds go to the Island Park PTA.

Veterans Recognition Public Art Project “Standing Strong” will be dedicated at 11 a.m. Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, at Mercerdale Park. Bring lunch and stay for music after the ceremonies.

Local Voices: Conversations on Civil Liberties and Homeland Security is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Islander Middle School. Speakers will be Chris Vance, chairman of the Washington State Republican Party, and Paul Lawrence, American Civil Liberties Union National Board member. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Seattle.

Mercer Island Baccalaureate, an interfaith community celebration to honor all high school seniors, is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. S.E. A reception will follow. Speakers will be Matt Hasselbeck of the Seattle Seahawks and Dr. Paul Highsmith, former Mercer Island High School principal. Open to family and friends of graduates.

Clubs

The ProBus Club of Mercer Island will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. S.E. The speaker will be Dr. Dan McDougall who spent four weeks in Indonesia after the recent tsunami and served in Serbia as a member of Northwest Medical Teams International. The public is welcome.

Sons of Norway meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Mercer Island United Methodist Church, 7070 S.E. 24th St.

Mercer Island Radio Operators meets at 7 p.m. every third Thursday of the month at the north-end fire station. It provides backup emergency communications for the Mercer Island Public Safety Department. For information, call Bill Ellis at 232-4881.

Talk Time English Conversation Class is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. For adults of all languages. Improve your English conversation skills and meet new friends.
