The Spring 2005 All Island Jazz Jam will be held on Sunday, June 5, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the south Mercer Island Starbucks store.

The jams have been an ongoing community event since 2001. Jazz-leaning residents of the Island are welcome to participate as musicians or as audience members. The jazz jams feature Mercer Island High School and Islander Middle School students prominently.

In recent weeks, the high school “Jazzer Kids” took first place in the Bellevue Jazz Festival. This is the second year in a row the kids have taken home the honor. The middle school Jazz Band made the finals and eventually took third place. And the high school “all students are welcome” band that meets only two days a week beat out 17 other schools.

Providing backup to the Jazz Jam will be organizer Michael Biller on guitar, Joe Casalini on bass and Lionel Kramer on drums.
