The Mercer Island Preschool Association (MIPA) will hold a celebration and walk from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 22 around the lair of the purple dragon in the children’s area at Island Crest Park. (If raining, the event will be held at the library).

The City of Mercer Island through the Parks and Recreation department is planning a renovation of the 45-year-old children’s park this coming summer. That renovation will include work on the restrooms, repair of the perimeter fence and work on the paths. A climbing rock will be added along with a pair of swings and other amenities.

MIPA, a non-profit, is hoping to capitalize on the city work by raising more money to replace and expand the parks play equipment. The MIPA hopes to purchase and install a 50-foot-wide by 12-feet-high “castle,” a seesaw and other structures for the park. The association has already held an auction to raise funds for the work and is a recipient of a $15,000 grant from the Starbucks Park Foundation.
