A warning about Mercer Island phone book scams

As a member of the Mercer Island Guild that puts out the directory and donates our proceeds to Seattle Children’s Hospital, I have a warning for the residents in our community. It has come to my attention that young adults are circulating in neighborhoods, going door to door, “selling” books from which they claim the proceeds will go to benefit the hospital. This is false. It’s a scam.

There are many guilds in our state that raise money for Seattle Children’s. Not one is authorized to go out door-to-door to raise money. Please beware of this when approached. The guild office at the hospital says they hear of this all the time. These people are slick. They might know your name. They might know the names of family members. Turn them away. The hospital can’t stop these scam artists, but we can slow them down by closing our doors to them.

If you want to make a donation to the hospital, you can do it directly or through our guild.
