Auto accidents

An abandoned, smashed but brand-new Ford Taurus station wagon was found by police on a dirt shoulder in the 5300 block of West Mercer Way around 2:50 a.m. on Nov. 24. According to the police report, there were no tire tracks, witnesses or a driver of the vehicle. The station wagon is registered at a rental car company near the airport.

The front bumper of a BMW was damaged while parked in a secured parking garage in the 7800 block of S.E. 27th Street sometime between Nov. 16 and 18.

A collision occurred in the intersection of S.E. 40th Street and 78th Avenue S.E. around 7:10 p.m. on Nov. 16. Both vehicles had stopped at the intersection, but one driver did not see the other car and hit the vehicle in the rear quarter panel.

Arrests

Three teens were arrested while spray-painting in Mercer Island Lid Park the night of Nov. 21 at about 10 p.m. According to the police report, two youths were from Seattle, another from Mercer Island and one 18-year-old was from the Island as well. Three paint cans were also confiscated by the police.

Two Island youths were arrested for possessing marijuana while sitting in a car outside the Shorewood Apartments the morning of Nov. 19. According to the police report, a neighbor had seen the two juveniles throw some trash out the window while parked outside the apartments. Police contacted the teens, one 18 and the other 17, found the drugs in the car and made the arrests.

Police arrested another man for possessing marijuana after making a traffic stop in the 4100 block of East Mercer Way around 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 17.

A 29-year-old Island resident was arrested in the 2800 block of Island Crest Way for driving with a suspended license around 1:35 a.m. on Nov. 21. According to the police report, officers stopped the car for having a broken rear left taillight and determined the driver’s license was suspended.

A Seattle man was also arrested on Mercer Island for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license in the 7700 block of S.E. 27th Street on Nov. 19 around 4 p.m.

Burglary

Several pieces of jewelry were taken from a home in the 8000 block of S.E. 20th Street between 7:45 a.m. and noon on Nov. 21. According to the police report, the victims returned to their home and found that it had been burglarized. One or two doors were unlocked and the alarm system was not activated. There were no signs of a forced entry. Several rings, a couple of watches and a bracelet were missing.

Car prowls

A DVD player, GPS unit, three credit cards and an Idaho driver’s license were taken from a Yukon parked on the shoulder in front of the victim’s home in the 2900 block of 71st Avenue S.E. the night of Nov. 18. According to the police report, the victim thought she had locked the SUV but police could not find evidence of a forced entry.

The door locks of a vehicle parked outside a residence in the 8700 block of S.E. 71st Street were damaged the night of Nov. 20.
