Earlier this month the Reporter published an article about a unique way the City of Mercer Island Parks Department chose to stretch its dollars. Instead of adding a new layer of mulch to city planter beds each year, the parks department will spray a bark-colored dye on the year-old mulch every other year to improve its appearance and keep weeds at bay. Here a couple of city crew members spray the dye on mulch along S.E. 36th Street across from City Hall on Monday, August 2.
