NUMBER OF ATHLETES: 16

LAST SEASON: The young Islanders went 2-5 in regular season matches, finishing in fifth place at the KingCo tournament. Islander James Gendreau qualified for the state tournament, the only member of the team to qualify.

STRENGTHS: “We’re very young, but I’m feeling optimistic,” said Tyson Peters. “It’s definitely a rebuilding year for us. Last year we were holding on to a few upperclassmen, but now we don’t have a lot anymore, so it’s looking at here’s what we have to develop. I see a lot of potential. This year is exciting to see where they can get, and our job is going to be motivating them to play.”

FOCUS: “Really, we’ve been assessing where everyone is and taking it from there,” said Peters. “They are very raw, and there is a lot to teach, but that for us as coaches is exciting.”

CAPTAINS: Juniors Josh Graham and Eric Kim.

“I think Josh and Eric are going to be really good captains,” said their coach. “They will do a good job of leading the team.”

“I feel like we have a lot of fun and know each other well,” said Kim, which he hopes will help them on the course this season.

MATCH TO WATCH: “The powerhouse this year is the same as last year — Interlake,” said Peters. “They will be tough to beat.”

“Bellevue and Interlake, because they were so strong last year,” said Graham.
