LAST SEASON: The Islanders won their second straight 3A state title. The team won the championship by one of the largest point margins, after winning the title in 2010 by just one point.

“Last year was such an accomplishment,” said Dieveney.

STRENGTHS: “The varsity team seems to have a natural cohesiveness,” said Dieveney. “That’s critical. They enjoy each other’s company and get along, and I’m already seeing a strong work ethic. We lost our No. 1 singles player last season, and I’m looking to see who will step up into that spot. Last season, we won state by one of the largest margins, and to follow a season like that they’ll need a strong work ethic and that cohesiveness.”

“We’re really deep this season,” said senior Kyle Baska. “We’re all very close.”

FOCUS: “The first week is working on team placement, seeing who worked in the offseason, and where they belong,” said the coach. “It’s probably the most challenging week for the boys because they have to play each other, and it can be tough.”

SENIORS: Kyle Baska, Josh Hartman, Max Tilden, Spencer Dillon and Zach Elliot.

MATCH TO WATCH: “We’re really going to take it one match at a time and prepare for everyone as much as possible,” said the coach.

The captains said they were excited to play Mount Si.
