Special to the Reporter

Seafair, Lake Washington’s largest event of the year, returns this Friday to Sunday, Aug. 1-3, with a weekend full of festivities, including the popular Blue Angels air shows. The event draws thousands of attendees to areas along the Lake Washington shoreline, including Mercer Island.

According to the city, Islanders should keep in mind the following information during the festivities:

* The Interstate 90 bridge will be open.

* Be aware that Groveland Beach Park’s capacity will be limited to 500 patrons, filled on a first-come, first-served basis. This limit is necessary to ensure the safety of park patrons and allow for adequate emergency response.

* Parks will be crowded, and parking will be limited. Arrive early and be patient.

* Roads will be congested, and traffic control may be directing vehicles down alternate routes. Drive carefully and allow extra time to get to and from your home.

* To allow for first-responder use, Proctor Landing will have limited access.

* The air shows are loud, and the noise is sporadic. Consider keeping pets inside during air show practices and performances to prevent runaway pets.

If you’re heading out on the water:

* Boaters should be mindful of No Wake Zones and restricted boat traffic areas during the event. Familiarize yourself with Washington state boating laws.

* Mercer Island Marine Patrol will be on the lake, along with additional vessels from surrounding law enforcement agencies, to ensure everyone’s safety in the water and along the coastline. Call 911 to report emergencies or safety concerns.

* Do not drink alcohol and operate a vessel. Sober boating enforcement will be in effect throughout Lake Washington.
