County deputy executive to visit Mercer Island Chamber Thursday

Mercer Island resident and Deputy King County Executive Fred Jarrett will be the featured speaker at this month's Chamber of Commerce luncheon, to be held at noon on Oct. 6 at the Community and Event Center.

Mercer Island resident and Deputy King County Executive Fred Jarrett will be the featured speaker at this month’s Chamber of Commerce luncheon, to be held at noon on Oct. 6 at the Community and Event Center.

Jarrett, as the highest-ranking staff position in the executive’s office, oversees and directs the work of the executive branch of King County government.

King County includes 2,131 square miles, 760 lakes and reservoirs, 975 wetlands, three federally protected salmon species, 3,000 miles of streams, 100 miles of marine coast line, 850 acres of forest lands, and with a population of over 2.007 million, it is the 14th most populated county in the U.S.

Previously a state senator, Jarrett also served four terms in the state House of Representatives, four terms as Mercer Island mayor and as a City Council and School Board member.

Jarrett had a 35-year career at the Boeing Co. He and his wife Susan live on Mercer Island, and most mornings he can be seen at the Park and Ride getting on Sound Transit’s 550 bus for the trip to work.
