The red nose is a universal symbol for this day and is a global movement to raise money and awareness of children’s issues like forced child labor, child abuse and preventable childhood diseases. People throughout the United States wore red noses and organized fundraisers.

First organized in 2011 by Comic Relief, last year NBC sponsored the day’s event that culminated in a three-hour entertainment TV special, featuring the country’s favorite comedians, musicians and Hollywood stars. This year, Walgreens sold out of the red noses with proceeds benefitting children’s charities and has partnered with NBC to support the cause.

To date, this effort has raised over $1 billion to help lift needy children out of poverty and to keep them safe, healthy and educated. The Covenant Shores group photo was sent to NBC, which will air it on national TV.

Covenant Shores, a faith-based, nonprofit, continuing care retirement community, is located at 9150 Fortuna Drive, Mercer Island. For more, call 877-385-8613 or visit www.covenantshores.org.
