Summertime. It’s crowded out there on the roads: walkers enjoying the long evenings; bikers circling the Island; drivers hurrying home to family activities. As we navigate the hubbub, let’s all try to keep it safe and friendly. None of us is perfect about this. What driver hasn’t forgotten to stop for pedestrians at an unmarked crosswalk (every intersection has them). Perhaps bikers don’t always ride as far to right as possible. And while I’m sure most us try to be reasonable, it’s easy to overlook that human perception tends to focus us on other people’s missteps rather than our own. For me, I know that if I try to fair to others, I will certainly fail. Only if I aspire to being generous to my fellow travelers is there any chance that I’ll be fair. And seriously, living in this beautiful, convenient place, that shouldn’t be so hard to do.
