Emergency management events on tap for June 23-24

The city’s Emergency Management Department is hosting the following events this week:

* Emergency Well and Community Points of Distribution (CPOD) Training will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 23 at Rotary Park. During April’s water emergency, Emergency Management Department volunteers helped distribute non-potable well water to the community. This training will give participants an overview of the process and the important role volunteers play during an emergency. The training will be held outside.

* Emergency Preparedness and MIRO Field Day Event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 24 at Luther Burbank Park. Field Day is a nationwide competition where HAM radio operators try to contact as many operators across the country as possible. Mercer Island Radio Operator (MIRO) and Emergency Management Department volunteers will be available to answer questions as well as showcase their gear and radio skills.
