Islander softball beats Bulldogs, tennis win over Kangs, lacrosse lose non-conference opener.

Fastpitch bounce back against Garfield

Mercer Island fastpitch bounced back from yesterday’s loss with a non-conference win over Garfield, winning 11-0 Tuesday, March 18 at the South Mercer Playfields. Camryn Steiner went 3-3, scoring two runs and batting in another. On the mound, Morgan Peyou allowed no runs while striking out 9.

Girls tennis beat Lake Washington

The girls tennis team opened its season with a win over Lake Washington, 7-0 Tuesday at Mercer Island High School. The Islanders’ Lydia Venditti won in singles competition over Kelly Barnes 6-0, 6-0, while Gabby Venditti defeated Amanda Levine 6-0, 6-0. Sarah Sweet won over Marissa Kirk 6-3, 6-1, and Sammy Sweet defeated Olivia Nguyen 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles competition, Caroline Dillon and Caroline Hamilton defeated Sara Tamai and Grace Muenz 6-4, 6-1. Melanie Lee and Miji Suhr beat Emily Chang and Emily Carlson 6-0, 6-0. And Kristine Melin and Catherine Seifert won over Maya Anderson and Amanda Kaufman 6-2, 6-2.

Girls lacrosse lose to Issaquah

The Mercer Island girls lacrosse team lost its non-conference matchup with Issaquah 15-4 Tuesday night at Mercer Island Stadium. Holly Waggoner had 2 goals for Mercer Island, while goalie Allie Dunbar had 10 saves. The Islanders will travel to Eastside Catholic High School to take on the Crusaders at 8 p.m. Friday, March 21.
