Over a period of 17 days beginning late last month, 292 motorists in King County were stopped and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI).

Over a period of 17 days beginning late last month, 292 motorists in King County were stopped and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (DUI). Last year in King County during the same time period, officers on routine and extra patrols arrested 374 people for DUI.

The ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ enforcement campaign was conducted statewide from Aug. 16 through Sept. 2.

August is one of the deadliest months on Washington’s roadways, including all causes of traffic fatalities. Across the state, last month, law enforcement officers arrested 1,420 drivers for DUI, including King County.

State and federal grant money paid for the extra patrols with more than two dozen police departments, including Mercer Island and the Washington State Patrol.
