Islander Jennifer Seely took this photo of a spotted owl outside her home at the end of 91st Avenue S.E., near Ellis Pond, around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8. According to Seely’s mother, Cynthia, the family often hears an owl in the darkness of the early morning and have seen one perched in a tree near the house. “But this is the first time we have seen one on the basketball hoop. It was quite a surprise — and it stayed there for about 20 minutes,” she said.
