Islander to cook on KCTS 9 television show

“Cooks With Potatoes II” on KCTS 9 will feature Mercer Island resident Aida Kouyoumjian on Saturday, Nov. 1. After submitting her recipe for an Armenian specialty potato dish to the KCTS 9 Cooks program, Kouyoumjian was invited to be featured on the show. Her demonstration of how to cook Patata-chop — potato cakes with stuffing — can be viewed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 1.

Kouyoumjian was inspired to cook Patata-chop after tasting Chef Jonathan R. Mortimer’s potato cakes at a culinary demonstration. When Kouyoumjian was growing up in Baghdad, Iraq, her mother served Patata-chop only during special occasions, as potatoes were hard to come by then. Kouyoumjian’s recipe will be printed in the show’s companion cookbook.

The show will also feature several other cooks, facilitated by George Ray of KCTS 9 and Chef Carol Dearth of SizzleWorks Cooking School.
