The Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce, the City of Mercer Island, the Green Ribbon Commission and Island Vision are partnering to create the Mercer Island Green Business Program (GBP) to support the Island business community “going green.”

The GBP promotes and encourages the adoption of best management practices by businesses with the aim to reduce their environmental footprint. The program verifies and recognizes those businesses that meet “green” standards, including taking actions to conserve resources, prevent pollution, minimize waste, be environmentally responsible, and promote shopping locally.

Members of the GBP network strive to support local businesses earning Green Business recognition while enhancing the local business community. Once registered and verified as promoting green business standards, Island businesses become part of the GBP and will be recognized by GBP window clings.

Businesses interesting in being recognized as a Mercer Island Green Business and joining the GBP network can contact the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce at (206) 232-3404 or the City of Mercer Island Deputy City Manager James Mason at (206) 275-7661.
