High speed chase on I-90 ends with fiery crash on Island Crest Way

A 47-year-old Bellevue man allegedly took Washington State Patrol troopers on a high-speed chase on I-90, Friday night, Nov. 8, that ended in a fiery crash on Mercer Island.
A reports from the Washington State Patrol, says that Peter E. Kern allegedly fled from troopers while speeding in the eastbound express lanes of I-90 around 11:30 p.m. with a passenger, 36-year-old Issaquah resident, Kristine L. Espindola.
Kern, driving a 2013 Porsche Panamera, exited onto Island Crest Way in Mercer Island where police report he struck a street sign and then a nearby building. The vehicle caught fire. WSP states the fire was contained to the Porsche. The luxury vehicle, valued at $79,000 or more, was totalled.
The Bellevue man and his passenger were transported to Overlake Medical Center. Kern was arrested for vehicular assault. The WSP report says that drug and alcohol were involved in the incident.
