The Islander Middle School parking area and loop drive off 84th Avenue Southeast will be closed through late August, the Mercer Island School District announced in a June 21 post on its website.

Due to demolition and construction, access to the track and fields will be via the south end during that period of time. Parking will be available at the south end lot directly adjacent to the fields. Once the building is removed, significant site work will need to be completed to create the student plaza, a large rain garden and the paths that will connect the old building with the new building.

The post also stated that once most of that work is completed, the final work of asphalt, striping and landscaping will take place in the parking and loop drive area.
