On behalf of the board of the Mercer Island Farmers Market, I would like to thank the MI Community Fund for their generous support of our new “Sampling and Strengthening Program.” Throughout the 2013 season, from Sunday, June 9, through Sunday, Oct. 13 (10 a.m.-3 p.m.), farmers market patrons will be able to sample an array of delicious products sold by our vendors, including fruit, vegetables, baked goods, fish, honey, jam and prepared foods. The MI Community Fund also allows us to provide some “market bucks” to Island residents who visit the MI Food Pantry. As a result, Mercer Island residents will add healthy, new favorites to their dinner tables, and our local vendors will benefit from the growing customer base on Mercer Island.
