It is amazing to me that the City Council is still considering the road diet!
A couple years ago we neighbors along 44th considered a stoplight put at the intersection of 44th (Merrimount) and Island Crest Way as the simplest answer. I was told there was no money. Ha! Then stoplights began appearing all over the place – least needed at the intersection of 86th and 40th. Their reply was to make it impossible to cross 44th at Island Crest Way, which many citizens had used to come east to schools, library, churches, etc.
Now, they wish to punish those living south of 44th to “downsize” their route home to one lane. Do any of these Council members travel south from 44th on a daily basis?
I agree that a vote of the citizens would better serve the people of Mercer Island and let the Council know how wrong they are.
